Words of Grace
Science of Mind as created by Ernest Holmes is a method of living of life of fullness in all areas of our lives. He recognized that it not only can be the only true help for health but also for all other arenas of our lives.
When he was first talking about this back in the early 1900s in Venice, California, it was because in the age before antibiotics, people often died of what we consider mundane things that are easily tended to. People died of influenza and colds which went to pneumonia, common bacterial infections, tuberculosis, and other things that at the time were very dire and often fatal. New Thought came about in the late 1800s through Phineas Quimby and he passed it down through two lines of teachers. You can check out these old time healers and maybe some of their names are familiar to you. Most easily recognized is probably Mary Baker Eddy, the originator of Christian Science. Another is Ralph Waldo Trine.
Regardless of how it all began, our line came through Mary Baker Eddy to Emma Curtis Hopkins and directly from her to Ernest Holmes. Ernest, however, came to her after much research and study of all the various religions of the world and then, late in Emma’s career, he came to her as a student. As I recall, he was one of her last students.
Ernest is different in that most people who begin a religion have had a divine revelation. Ernest came to his understanding through study of everything. He found Truth in all of them and held no religious enemies. I don’t suppose his belief system held any enemies at all.
Here’s what the basics of Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes say, and they are still big, bold Truths that still apply:
“There is a power in the Universe greater that you are and you can use it.” I believe he also meant to say that you have always used it. It is how your life became what it was at each state and stage of your growth.
“What you think about and talk about, comes about.” By which he means very clearly that our thoughts and words we use constantly create the life we live. If you think and talk about who “done you wrong,” you will surely draw to yourself more and more people who seem to do you wrong.
“Thoughts are things.” The things that come to us and the things that happen “to us” are manifestations of that which we have been thinking and talking about in the near and distant past. If you want something different, all you must do is think different thoughts. Think about your dreams and desires instead of thinking about what you didn’t want.
This month we will explore that theme, The Power of Thought. If you believe you have understood the principles of Science of Mind and are practicing them, your life should have changed for the better and you are ready to think some bigger, grander thoughts. If your life hasn’t quite come round to the fullness you thought you were thinking about, come join us as we explore the power of your thoughts and how you can control what you think and receive the results you truly want.
And you can learn to be happy-anyway.
Join us for Mystery School November 6 and 7 to begin that process in company using many different techniques to include many different areas of the brain/mind to tap into the creative power you possess but may not be utilizing fully yet. Wear comfy clothes as we will be doing art and movement as well.
Friday, 11-6 from 6:00-9:00, includes a light meal in case you have to work and might get here hungry.
Saturday, 11-7 from 10:00-4:00, includes coffee and a nosh plus a light lunch.
I hope you will join us on an inward journey to polish the mirror in which you see yourself and begin to see who you really are.
